Harmonious Transformation and Changes

Chapter 1

By Hu Xuezhi

A supernatural diviner called Jee Xian came from Chee Country and settled in Zhen Country. He was capable of predicting the death, birth, success, failure, danger, diseases, longevity, marriage and all others things people submitted to him for divination. He could give very accurate time as to the year, month and date without any lapse after verification with the subsequent events. In consequence, all people in Zhen Country would fee in alarm when watching him coming in their ways. Liea Tzi admired Jee Xian so much that he regarded him as providence and returned telling his teacher Hu Tzi: “Formerly, I regarded you as one with the most profound and extensive learning. But now I changed my idea after knowing there existing another person called Jee Xian.”

Hu Tzi replied: “Do you really think that you have gotten the essentials of Tao after learning with me the superficial things as names, definitions and explanations which concern Tao – It is named Tao – without the least experience of what is the noumenon of Tao --- the eternal Tao? Do you think the reproduction process can be extended far when there are only female birds left over without one male bird? Using the preliminary understanding of Tao to face up the ever-changing diverse universal things existing in the corporeal realm you are sure to disclose the true life track sometimes and it is for sure that you can be a subject within the divination. You can bring Jee Xian here and invite him to watch my physiognomy and palmistry and let me hear his oracle.”

Liea Tzi brought Jee Xian next day to his teacher’s place. Hastening steps to run out of Hu Tzi’s house Jee Xian whispered in alarm to Liea Tzi: “I catch hold of a very strange sign and special feeling as like damp mud from your teacher’s physiognomy and this is to inform you to prepare all things for the impending death of your teacher within 10 days.”

Liea Tzi went into his teacher’s house, tears coming down, conveying Jee Xian’s words to his teacher. “What I presented to him is nothing but the broadness and stillness of the Earth. My heart settles deep into the stillness and remains there without any inclination to move. Therefore, Jee Xian caught hold nothing but the feeling that all is blocked up without the least vital force. Come to invite him another time.” Hu Tzi said.

Liea Tzi brought Jee Xian to his teacher’s place second time the next day. Saying with smile after coming out of Hu Tzi’s house: “It is really a good luck for your teacher chancing to encounter me! He is well now without any diseases for I get the sign that a little vital force is rising upward from the extensive blockade.”

Liea Tzi went into his teacher’s house, conveying Jee Xian’s words to his teacher. “What I presented to him just now is nothing but the extensiveness of the Heaven high up. My heart is free of any place where all the named things can take residence and in the same time, a dynamic force is forcing its way upward from my heel, indicating a turning point for the end of the blockade. But he only gets the sign of the turning point. Come to invite him another time.” Hu Tzi said.

Liea Tzi brought Jee Xian to his teacher’s house third time the following day. Telling Liea Tzi after coming out of Hu Tzi’s house: “I cannot make any divination because your teacher sits there in trance, with no specific motion and stillness for me to get hold of. Wait till his heart returns to normal state and invite me again.”

Liea Tzi went into his teacher’s house, conveying Jee Xian’s words to his teacher. “What I presented to him just now is nothing but the infinite emptiness of the Heaven without tangible signs whatever. Therefore, he gets hold of nothing but the natural operation of inner energy in great balance. An abyss comes into being when a large whale turns its body to churn the water currents. Also an abyss comes into being when still water comes together to form a whirling currents. Also an abyss comes into being when flowing water runs together to form whirling currents. Also an abyss comes into being when flooding water runs together to form whirling currents. Also an abyss comes into being when falling water comes together to form whirling currents. Also an abyss comes into being when water rushes out from side to form whirling current. Also an abyss comes into being when water floods upward then have to back off and thus forming whirling currents. Also an abyss comes into being when fountain churns upward from ground and masses there gradually to form whirling currents. Also an abyss comes into being when water from different sources converge at one place to form whirling currents. Therefore, there are nine kinds of abyss from my description. And you can know the stillness state of the heart is abyss while the different running physiognomy of water is nothing but currents. People can catch hold of the specifics of the currents but become helpless to go beyond their capacity to know the abyss. Come to invite him again.”

Liea Tzi brought Jee Xian to his teacher’s house fourth time the following day. Yet, Jee Xian feed away in great alarm as soon as he had not stood up there steadily before Hu Tzi. “Go after him!” shouted HuTzi to Liea Tzi. Yet Liea Tzi could not get the least trace of Jee Xian and had to return reporting to Hu Tzi: “There left no trace of him and I had to give up. Sorry for that.”

Hu Tzi said: “What I presented to him just now never goes beyond the very root of Great Tao. I never adhere to any kinds of stillness and emptiness and just follow him to change accordingly. Consequently, he cannot get any signs from me but the void and nonexistence. Sometimes I behave as like reed inclining downward and upward as wind rushes in the way. Sometimes I behave as like water wandering downward following the trend at ease. Therefore he was scared too much and had to run away.”

Henceforth, Liea Tzi began to know he learnt nothing from his teacher and stayed in his home for three years without taking one step out of the house after returning home. Burning fire and making meal for his wife, feeding the pig as like to serve a patient, Liea Tzi just kept free of all kinds of attachment to all universal things and abstaining from any ostentation and luxury, to go after nothing but the simplicity. Later, Liea Tzi became a great saint in China’s long history.
