Attain That Which Constitutes Non-existence and Existence
Excerpt from book Discourse On Chuang Tzu / Chapter 22 Sentient Awareness Journeys in the North
Dazzling-Brightness asked Non-Existence, “Master, do you exist or do you not exist?” Dazzling-Brightness received no answer.
Dazzling-Brightness stared steadfastly at the mien of Non-Existence, which resembled the profound vacuity of a deep void. For a whole day he stared, but could not see him; listened, but could not hear him; stretched out to touch him, but could not take hold of him.
“That is absolutely perfect!” exclaimed Dazzling-Brightness. “Who else could attain such a state? I can conceive of the existence of nonexistence, but not of the non-being of nonexistence. As for that which constitutes non-existence and existence, how could it ever he be hoped that such majesty could be attained?”
光曜问乎无有曰：“夫子有乎？其无有乎？”光曜不得问，而孰视其状貌，窅然空然，终日视之而不见，听之而不闻，搏之而不得也。”
光曜曰：“至矣，其孰能至此乎！予能有无矣，而未能无无也；及为无有矣，何从至此哉！”
