Grand Buddha at Ling Shan

With more than 88 meter high and weighing over 700 tons, the Grand Buddha at Ling Shan is a bronze Sakyamuni standing Buddha outdoors and built in the end of 1996. In 2008, a “Five-signets” Palace and a Brahma Palace were built south-east of the grand buddha statue.

The Grand Buddha lies in the Small Ling Shan named by the famous Great Monk Xuanzang in Tang Dynasty, this is how the Grand Buddha in Ling Shan got its name. The Grand Buddha are made in tin, bronze, created, and completed according to the record of the Buddhist scriptures Tathagata 32 images.

The Grand Buddha is pleasing to the eyes and very kind, widely looking at all the living creatures. The left and right hands have hand print with “wish”, wishing the world happy and welfare and the mark before the chest represents solemn.

The Ling Shan Buddha becomes a part of the Spring Festival, when a bell that weighs 12 tons rings periodically during the day. The sound of the bell is said to bring good luck and blessings on those who hear it. This bell is believed to be the largest of its kind in South China. Up to 2 million visitors visit this popular tourist attraction in Wuxi each year.

The whole Buddha is not only rounded and strong, but also solemn and auspicious, created very carefully and vivid, appears the image of Buddha’s mercy. When you stand before the Gr、and Buddha, you cannot help praising how prefect the Chinese Buddhist work it is!

The Grand Buddha is standing straight near the Taihu Lake in Wuxi. Its establishment is one of the biggest occasions in Chinese Buddhism field for about one hundred years.

On the scenic spots, Wuxi citizens always called a pearl is the Taihu Lake, while the Grand Buddha at Ling Shan is the brilliance on this pearl.
